It could be said that the water heater in your home is probably the most important and yet under appreciated appliance. Many of the tasks that you need to get done each day rely heavily on your water heater doing its job properly.

Not only do you count on your water heater to all you to take a shower, wash dishes, and do laundry, but you can also count on it to contribute to nearly 50% of your monthly power bill. With this much of an impact on your household, it is important to be mindful of your water heater.

Luckily, the team at Absolute Plumbing and Drain have more than a decade of experience and training with both tank and tankless water heaters. Our reliable and licensed plumbers have the experience and the equipment to install, repair, and maintain a wide variety of makes and models of tank and tankless water heating systems.

Tankless Water Heater

Tankless water heating systems are quite different in that they heat water up on-demand. In other words, there is not a tank of stored hot water waiting for you to need it. Instead, the cold water is heated at the time that you use it.

The heating sensors in the tankless system heat the pipes that the cold water passes through, and these pipes heat the water. This means that only when the hot water is needed and the sensor engage will water be heated up.

Because water is heated on-demand with a tankless system, they can save a homeowner approximately 25% on their annual power bill, or an average of $200.

Both tankless and standard tank water heaters have positives and negatives, and neither is perfectly suited for all homeowners. In fact, tankless systems are quite a bit more expensive to purchase than standard tank systems. Also, to install a tankless system the plumbing of the home needs to be re-configured to support the tankless operations, which is not always an easy and inexpensive process.

Luckily, the outstanding plumbers at Absolute Plumbing and Drain have the experience and the equipment to mediate any issue that you might be faced with regarding your hot water heater!

Standard Tank Water Heaters

Nearly all homes in the United States have a standard tank water heating system installed. These units have been available for decades, they are cost-efficient, and relatively easy to maintain. While you may not come in contact with your home’s water heater on a daily basis, you know what it looks like.

These units are designed to store water that has been heated up. To do this, they are equipped with the telltale storage tank that stands vertical and looks like a tall cylinder. Most residential systems hold approximately 50 gallons of water.

When the unit is connected to the plumbing pipes of your home, cold water is drained into the water heater tank. This process engaged the heating element, which has been set to a designated temperature using the thermostat.

The heating element for your water heater is likely powered by either electricity, gas, or propane. Once the water heats up to the desired temperature, the heating element disengages and the hot water sits until someone in the home needs it.
