Water Heater Services in Pittsburg, CA

Pittsburg, California Water Heater Services

Of all of the appliances in your home, the water heater could be arguably the most underappreciated. This is likely because it is typically hidden out of sight and doesn’t require any daily interaction. However, most of the chores that you have to complete each day require a properly working water heater. Things like washing dishes and taking a shower could not be done without hot water.

If you have a standard storage tank water heater in your home, on average it runs approximately three hours per day and costs nearly $800 per year to operate. While water heaters come in various sizes and can be set to specific temperatures, most residential water heaters hold 50-gallons of water and are set to 120-degrees Fahrenheit.

At Absolute Plumbing and Drain we have more than ten years of experience installing, repairing and providing maintenance services for both standard storage tank water heaters as well as tankless water heaters. Providing options for our customers is a priority, which is why we support a wide variety of makes and models of both tankless and tank water heater systems.

Standard Tank Water Heaters

Probably the most easily recognized water heating systems, the standard tank water heaters are designed as a vertical tank that can range in size from six to 120 gallons, with the average household choosing a 50 gallon tank.

This tank installs into the plumbing system of your home through pipes and valves and the thermostat on the tank is set for a specific temperature. At the bottom of the tank is a heat source, which can be powered by electric, gas, or propane.

Cold water from your plumbing system fills the tank, engaging the heating element to heat the water up to the designated temperature. The heated water then sits in the tank, waiting for someone in the home to wash dishes or take a shower. If the water sits long enough to cool and drops below the designated temperature, the heating element turns on again and heats the water back up.

A standard storage water heater is fairly inexpensive, easy to install, and will last for anywhere from 10 to 15 years.

Tankless Water Heater

A tankless water heater does not include a storage tank and therefore has a much smaller footprint, typically the size of a small suitcase, and can be installed on a wall. The tankless system has a heating element the same as the standard tank water heater that is powered by either electric, gas, or propane. However, rather than this element heating several gallons of water and storing it in a tank, it is only engaged when the heat exchangers in the unit signal it.

When the hot water is turned on somewhere in the home, the heat exchangers signal the heating element to engage. As the cold water is run through the pipes of the tankless water heating system, it is heated up by the element. If the system is large enough to accommodate the demand, the system can heat anywhere from two to five gallons of water per minute, for the entire duration that the hot water faucet is turned on.

With this on-demand system of heating water, the energy usage of a tankless system is approximately 25% less annually than that of a tank water heating system. This equals an average of $200 per year in electricity savings.

No matter what type of water heating system that you have or would like to have installed in your home, the team at Absolute Plumbing and Drain can provide you with excellent support. Our professional and licensed plumbers have more than ten years of training and experience installing, maintaining, and repairing all types of water heating systems including tankless and standard.
